- Cabrini-Green/Near North Master Plan
City of Chicago
Chicago, Illinois
Goody Clancy worked with a multidisciplinary team of national experts on a redevelopment plan for Chicago's Near North district--an area of vacant lots and deteriorated buildings surrounding the city's most troubled public housing development, Cabrini-Green. The resulting master plan transformed derelict public housing into an mixed-income urban neighborhood for more than 5,000 residents.

Project Highlights:
- Goody Clancy led a two-day charrette for the City of Chicago and created the urban design concept plan for transforming the area into a stable, mixed-income neighborhood.
- The plan established a framework and design guidelines for development of several thousand units of mixed-income housing, new public schools and parks, and a new commercial center with a street grid that connects the area to adjacent neighborhoods. The design guidelines build on a foundation of familiar Chicago architectural forms and massing.
- The city has been working with developers to implement the multiphase redevelopment plan.
