Goody Clancy developed a plan to guide growth and create an “endowment campus” for this small liberal arts college. We prepared an academic master plan to accommodate a doubling of academic space while increasing campus open space. The new configuration and reolcation of a surface lot's funcitons to structured parking allowed createion of a four-acre precinct in which up to 600,000 SF of medical-research space could be built and leased to private tenants at market rates. An integrated master plan with design guidelines coordinated plan elements and laid out ways to phase and direct subsequent growth.

Project Highlights:
The institution faced increasing concerns about its ability to fund new facilities that responded to changing academic needs and student demographics.
Strategy:
- Limited funding curtailed the school's ability to meet shifting academic needs and student demographics. The endowment campus generated significant funding dedicated to strengthening existing programs and introducing new ones.
- Hired as advisers, Goody Clancy ultimately took on the role of college representative in meetings with the city, nearby medical and research institutions, and the community. Outreach produced strong support for significant development, and city and state agencies approved both the campus master plan and the endowment campus plan.
- Goody Clancy helped the college structure a successful partnership with a real estate developer, leading to Merck Pharmaceuticals' decision to build a 400,000-square-foot research center on the endowment campus.
- The college subsequently retained Goody Clancy to design new student housing, a new student center (both complete), and an addition to a key academic building.
